RANDOM BIG TUNE OF THE DAY
Bob Sinclar – Gym Tonic
There’s a LBL Remix that’s making the blog rounds, but early 2000 French house was my shit, so I’m repping for the OG today.

Mamaseh from Old Money on Vimeo.
My dude Konrad, producer of the New York/Vancouver group OLD MONEY MASSIVE just put out a new video for their latest single “Mamaseh.” Directed by my good friend CHAR LORO.
I had the privilege of opening for legendary producer and DJ Mark the 45 King at The Main Ingredient a few months back. He was a real humble dude but to imagine he had beats on him like the ones that eventually became Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life” and Eminem’s Stan is amazing. Here’s a clip of a German documentary that tells the story about the making of “Hard Knock Life” starring its main characters: Jay-Z, Kid Capri, and, of course, the 45 King himself.

My dude from D.C. Quartermaine aka Supa Qool DJ Uncle Q has been a beast with his “best of…”mixes, after making epic compilations of Maxwell, Erykah, and Raphael Saadiq. His latest is an amazing concept: the best love songs by Lenny Kravitz. Perfect for the winter time, Q showcases the best of one of my favorite artists ever.

Lastly is the epic banger from two of Toronto’s biggest DJ’s. Lissa Monet & P-Plus put out this dual mix taking you on a ride of love in flight, and love done wrong. Sure to be imitated for years to come (as well as having people mad at them for having used the Commes Des Garcons logo first), this double disc is a reflection of how the T-Dot gets down with music.
Plus! If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a physical copy, you can appreciate the production value of this joint, because the packaging rivals a lot of store bought ish, for real!

I know I’m a couple days late, but eff it: Valentine’s Day is manufactured: but sex is as real as it gets! Get ta coitusing!
Frank’n'Dank – Love (Is A Thing of the Past)
I need to find this 12″ and get this immortalized in mp3 format!
And while it goes without saying, we will always say: RIP J. DILLA

Much love to my team, the competitors, OG supporters, new found fans, and RedBull. It was an amazing night from end to end.
But oh no, it ain’t over motherfuckers. March 13. National finals @ Sound Academy.
Put somethin’ on it.

Holy shit, my fam DJ Royale found me gems I had to bury for a while because I played them too much when it came out. If this were dubbed to cassette, the reel would be in shreds.
A little context: prior to the Juan Epsteins of the world, we would catch a little bit of that New York flavor from random interviews posted up on usual suspect rap blogs.
I never really messed with the hood DVD’s of the day because I thought it was a lot the same old smack talk but without real direction. This one particular appearance of Dipset Capo Jim Jones on Funkmaster Flex’s show back in ’07, however, was special.
This was Jones at his shit-talking peak. Not to take away from his Harlem swag of today. But three years ago, he had everyone in his orbit and vice versa: Jay-Z, 50, Nas, Tru Life and even his brother-in-arms Cam’Ron. His crew’s fate was in peril, and he had the hottest record in the country with “Ballin’” , but even in the centre of the storm, Jones kept it all under control and with a “Dipset gonna win everytime” vibe in every response.
If he had the skills to back up his talk from day one, Jones would definitely be the Ric Flair of this rap shit. Instead, for the longest time, he made a great Jimmy Hart: an amazing instigator but only from the sidelines.
Plus, Flex does an amazing job complementing Jim’s blind fury, and amplifying it for entertainment purposes while still not taking any sides.
Say what you want about Jim, but this is an integral part of hip-hop that I miss: the shit talking and braggadocio. We latch on to our favorite 90′s rappers because they appeared larger than life to us.
Too many rappers nowadays only have the swag on wax, and don’t want to bump heads because, as Hov puts it, it “might offend their political connects.”
Fuck that, stir up the pot, see what mixes, and see what doesn’t. It’s a dope alchemy. Conflict and friendly competition keep the swords sharp. As a community we’ve learned our lessons about taking things too far (rest in peace Big & Pac), but this kind of talk is what keeps hip-hop at its best.
editors note: unfortunately, these are only 3 of the 5 parts that initially surfaced back in ’07. If anyone has links to the remaining two parts of this magic puzzle, HOLLER!
The first one was an ill time! Me and Kaewonder bringing wreck to your speakers once again!

If I were ever asked to make an instructional video for prospective DJ’s coming up in the scene, these scenarios would definitely come to mind. If you’ve been in this game as long as I have, you definitely had these thoughts pop in your head, and know about the struggles of communicating your art to cats trying to cheapen the value of what me and my peoples do. The robotic cursing definitely adds some comedic effect to some otherwise frustrating situations.
