JULY 17 – THE MAIN INGREDIENT presents ALI SHAHEED MUHAMMED!

It goes without saying that both A Tribe Called Quest and Lucy Pearl are two groups that get a lot of run every month at our party. So to have one of the original members of both groups throwing down his favorite tunes with us is truly an honor. As nice on the decks as he is in person (and he’s very humble cat), we’re proud to present Ali Shaheed Muhammed to The Main Ingredient!

Also celebrating the birthday of one of my very good friends, and one of the most genuine people in this scene, Char Loro. Her energy is electric, so you know her birthday jam is going to be off the hook!

MJ – We Remember You

On the eve of the one year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s untimely passing, I think again about one of craziest events I’ve ever spun at: 10000+ people at Yonge-Dundas Square for what was just a flash mob of dancing and patriotism. Rain and shine, people were basking in all of it. Not a unhappy face in the crowd (at least from what I saw). I dare not post up my set from that day (I had computer problems, and definitely had the worst set of them all), but I’m honored to have been part of the line-up on this day.

One Night In North Carolina

Back in 2009, I had the great fortune of opening up for The Foreign Exchange in their hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina. I was really excited because: 1) FE is one of my favorite groups of all time, and 2) it was one of the rare occasions I got to test out my sound in front of a completely unfamiliar crowd.

I knew the crowd was mature and knew their soul music, so I stuck to the standards. What could have been just some filler time in between acts turned out to be a mini-jam by the time I was done and a crowd ready to be entertained by the headliners. Definitely a memorable night for me.

Many thanks to Jodi from Cat’s Cradle, Carolina for the camera work, and the big homey DJ Forge for the look.

THURS JUNE 10 – GIVE MONEY MAKE CHANGE PT 2! @ REVIVAL

As an original Inner City Visions alum from wayyyy back in the day, it’s an honor whenever I get hailed up to help out my old friends Gavin Sheppard and Derek (Drex) Jancar with such an important cause for the city, and for hip-hop culture as well. This program has developed a phenomenal groundswell of unity across so many social platforms, as well as churned out so many of Toronto’s key artists and media moguls in the making. Do make the effort to come out to this event, and donate generously.

Last year Remix launched it’s first ever-annual fundraising campaign and raised $75,000. They are extremely thankful for everyone who has supported the project and believed in the importance of the work their organization does.

Thanks to all the supporters in 2009’s Give Money Make Change campaign Remix has found a beautiful new home in the heart of Toronto at 2 Pardee Ave. Suite 201. This year’s campaign will help renovate and set-up the facility which will include a recording studio, production room, video editing suite, photography studio, creative arts centre, board room and a business incubator.
