DJ Stephen Hawking speaks for all of us! Some funny videos about my business.

If I were ever asked to make an instructional video for prospective DJ’s coming up in the scene, these scenarios would definitely come to mind. If you’ve been in this game as long as I have, you definitely had these thoughts pop in your head, and know about the struggles of communicating your art to cats trying to cheapen the value of what me and my peoples do. The robotic cursing definitely adds some comedic effect to some otherwise frustrating situations.

This Thursday – SOCIAL EXPERIMENT presents The Remix Project Reunion

Thursday February 4, 2009
Social Experiment presents THE REMIX PROJECT REUNION

The Remix Project is an incredible force in the Toronto hip-hop scene that has nurtured its city’s rawest talent into rising stars and influential entrepreneurs.

The Remix Project is an arts, cultural and life skills incubator serving young people across the GTA but located right in the heart of Toronto. Remix works to help some of the most gifted but vulnerable young people in the city to realize their own creative and business-minded potential while working to strengthen Toronto, Canada’s burgeoning creative industry.

Remix first opened its doors in September 2006 at 110 Sudbury St., backed by municipal funding and grants from the private sector. They paired the music industry’s luminaries with kids with the drive and talent but without the adequate resources to make it happen. After a six month semester consisting of workshops and intensive one on one training, the graduates are comparable to tempered steel from a blacksmith, ready for the world.

The program has received worldwide accolades and has branched out into countries where similar stories are played out: the disenchanted youth vy to make something of themselves with their unbridled love for hip-hop. Remix is there to bridge the gap.

Remix Project endured a setback when its funding from the government had ceased. After a rigorous grassroots fundraising campaign, and a re-placement of the headquarters into the heart of the downtown Toronto, The Remix Project is ready to nurture a new generation of kids into personal acheivement.

But before we can shape our future, it is imperative we re-visit our past.

Do joins us this Thursday as past graduates of the Remix Project come together for a much needed reunion. A layman who spends some time amongst its participants will be quick to learn a couple gems:

1) As with any school, its students quickly form very long lasting friendships.

2) From its core staff to the end product, everything about The Remix Project should serve as a template of how this hip-hop ish should be done from here on out.

THE FRESHEST KIDS present “WHAT THE F!” Mixtape

My peoples The Freshest Kids are the dudes out in Vancouver. There isn’t a genre of music they don’t rep with deep crates, and they encapsulate everything a sound crew does: you can have them all, mix and match, or have them play out separately and guarantee they’ll kill your dance and still rep for their team all in one fell scratch. And of course, they keep it fresh to death.

Their podcasts have been getting a lot of attention as of late, and they just put out a new one, this time with some prrrrrroper packaging (as seen above). You can preview the mix below then cop it from their website.

Words of inspiration from conebone69

Yes, this late night issue is definitely last week’s news, but I can’t help but go back and watch this last bit over and over again. Years from now, when we’ve all been distanced from the controversy and infighting, you’re left with some very good advice from Mr. O’Brien. Try your best to work them into your own routine, and if you’re too lazy to watch 4 minutes of real talk, check out the pic below it for the synopsis.
